Amoromancy (?) is a definate precursor to pornomancy.
Remember they were stag flims back then. Amoromancy
also makes for damn fine archetypes in the travelling
salesman department. Check out Ted Pro's Ascendant
Cuckoldry at UA.com.

Alan Ginsberg as the last great American Cryptomancer
makes great sense. These schools are great.

All these are viable.

Rather than adepts I reckon lots of people where still
on that Dead School kick. Lots of Avatar/Ritual
Thaumaturgy magicians. Lots more familiars and hedge
wizards with demon assistants.
I'd say lots of Agents on Renunciation turned in
war-torn Europe coming back to kick the status quo in
McCarthyist America.
It was the time the Sleepers dicked over the New York
mobsters. Also, the 1950s was the Golden Age of the
Sicilian Mafia. Try and research Murder Incorporated!
They're fantastic. They could easily be a cult of
avatars. A lot of tension with the Mafia's new
anti-sorcery ideas.
Lots of Nazi's are smuggled over to America through
Project Paperclip.
It was the embryonic start of the civil rights
movement. At this point in time the KKK are are
powerful force in Southern politics and are full of
rich and powerful people. Certain members are also
very well informed on the occult.
The rise of bikers with On The Road as the new manual
of spiritual discovery. The start of the Hell's
Angels.
The rise of the Counterculture as a social force
fueled by the Beat Generation. Do research on the rise
of Jazz and prerock slang - occultists are Hep Cats.
Before the Love Generation of the 1960's hard core
spiritualists actually hiked to Tibet and learned at
the feet of gurus. By gurus I do not mean the
money-grubbing opportunists that rose in the sixties I
mean dirty, penniless Fakirs in India. Their students
brought back Epideromancy.
As said before: Burroughs is good source material. I
especially liked Junky but there's also the largely
incoherent rambles which make up Naked Lunch.
Ginsberg's Howl is good source material (it was all
dictated my ghosts and demons).
It was also the rise of Satanism and Anton Le Vay's
popularity amid the celebrity Cults of Hollywood. Big
occult happenings there. Le Vay cursed Jane Mansfield
for standing him up. He oublically cursed her and she
was decapitated a few days later. Tragic accident?
Don't forget Aleister Crowley. He was still a massive
underground influence. Jack Parsons and L Ron Hubbard
doing the Babalon Working in Death Valley in 1947
could have let in something into the world which
impacts in the 1950s.
You'll need to alter the archetypes too.
If I think of more, I'll post it.
Cheers,
Chris.
