LaVey doesn't work in the 50's, as he didn't start the Church of Satan 
until '66.  It was actually Mansfield's boyfriend/lawyer he claimed to 
have cursed, accidentally "causing" her death.  Of course, in real life, 
LaVey's claims to involvement with Mansfield and Marilyn Monroe have 
been pretty thoroughly debunked, but that doesn't put a damper on his 
usefulness to a 60's UA campaign.  The man came up with lots of great 
legends for himself, which only bore a passing resemblance to the truth. 
  At least Crowley actually did do some incredible things, although not 
nearly as many as people accuse him of.
