As an addendum to my post, I just remembered a while ago there was a phenomenon circulating around the Invader Zim fan community - the concept of collectable image files. The concept, known as "Chip Switch" was very popular, and was based around a controlled release schedule combined with individual rarities. It also had rules that one had to abide by to participate in the program (ie no post ing images on websites, etc). I can imagine a collectable RPG being based on similar lines -- offer the elusive Chapter 5 as normal, but limit it to 250 copies or less, making it a collectable item. The trick is making the RPG something that hardcore roleplayers with lots of disposable income would actually want to buy.
Thoughts?
