I think I've put my finger on what was rumbling around in my brain.
This cabal is trying to usurp the current mystic hermaphrodite by
turning it from its current inward-focussed entity into an
outward-focussed entity:
The MH is all about expanding the self, embracing contradictions within
the self, being able to love oneself. The path to MHhood (in my mind)
involves much reflection and contemplation, and not so much teaching or
learning from others (at least not in a traditional sense).
This cabal wants to share the enlightenment. They are men who have
taken on traditionally-womanly attributes (refinement, good taste,
fashion sense), and then turn around and teach it to other men. They're
commoditizing MHhood, making it available to the masses.
...
You know it's a good UA topic when it can produce so many different
explanations, including two or three campaign hooks.
