As for the whole "Queer Eye"/"metrosexual" thread: my impression is that 
the TV show is pretty much "effete upper-middle-class eye for the 
working-class guy". I read up on one of their early episodes on the web 
site, where the guy's fashion offenses apparently included wearing 
paint-stained overalls (he works as a carpenter and painter) and having 
an apartment that was too small. Bad consumer! Bad! You should be more 
like those gay guys... who are all rich and who don't have jobs that 
require manual labor. Everyone knows that about gay people.

(Disclaimer: yes, it's sarcasm directed at the show's irresponsible 
propagation of gay stereotypes.)
