I was kidding, but I'm not apologizing. Its not US bashing, and is not lack
of interest in learning another culture.
I love the fact that UA is US-centric ingame (the same way I love, say, the
psedo-japanese elements of Legend of the Five Rings), and I would love to
have the creativity to give people an Spanish take on UA. Both things are
good.
But the books are US-centric in the sense of lack of context, like the mail
from Greg about this really infamous ball (look, it has us fighting here! :
-P). They assume everyone reading knows US culture at a level that is just
not true (as somebody else said, we all know TV USA)
The best example I can think of is a mistake on the translation of
"Bullets, Money and Lawyers", where we got the puzzling statement of Abel
being told his arquetype was "El Heroe Argelino" (Hero from Algeria) and we
all were trying to figure out what the hell had that north african country
to do with Abel. Horatio Alger is a complete unknown author here and the
translator screwed up :-)
Footnotes and short exposition for non-americans ("Algerian Hero, from
Horatio Alger's novels of..") would help this absolutely wonderful game to
sell better overseas. And as I love the game, I'd love to see it making it
big all over the world.
