I agree wholeheartedly on your assumption about Ars
Magica. It is the best "fantasy" RPG that I play
seriously. I've tried D&D3 and it always ends up
tongue-in-cheek.

A friend of my living many miles away had the exact
same problem as you did, only he tried running for Ars
Magica players and they tried to Power the System
(still used 3rd ed. He quit before the game started.

I am playing in an ArsMa saga at the moment. Damn
funky.
