I don't think the US has apologized for dropping the bombs. As I recall, in
1991, a group of Japanese diplomats approached the US, asking to hold a
ceremony where they apologized for attacking Pearl Harbor. The US
representatives thought that was a dandy idea. Then, the Japanese diplomats
continued, maybe you could apologize for Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
"No," was the reply.
At the time, I recall thinking that was the most cold blooded thing I ever
heard. Times change.
