And that gives the light side/dark side split that it needed, too. Making
that the truth behind all the nonsense would work quite well, although I
don't think that either of two Avatars in this scenario would understand the
truth...or care if they did.
My own version of the OU is one in which no one really knows the Big Truths.
Most things are going to get a spin on them that obscures the
"reality"..Avatars are one example. The common belief will be that Avatars
are channeling gods or spirits, not ascended archtypes. I figure that a lot
of people will think of the Clergy as gods, and more than a few will try
worshipping them. This will usually end very badly for all concerned, but
should make for some entertaining scenarios.
The fact that my players are unlikely to ever read the books will certainly
work to my advantage here. I can reveal the truth to them bit by bit, only
to pull the rug out from underneath them when they start taking things for
granted.

"Yes, I am acquainted with Mr. DePalma," Dr. Hsu said. "He was
my pupil years ago. A young man not without talent, but slapdash,
and huckle-muckle in his worksmanship."
"What did you say?" the mayor asked.
"He's a jerk," Dr. Hsu Ting Feng said.
