I sort of imagine archetypes being fairly normal aspects of life on the lowest of levels. Rarely can I get through a day without acting like a Fool for at least a second, or without doing acts appropriate to the Rebel or whatever else. But as you get to hiher levels, it should get more appropriately mythical. (in my mind, however, some myths may be descended from high level avatars, though by no means all). The mystical power they get and regulated set of behaviours are more mythical at higher levels, partly because historical people tend to never get very high (at least, none that you hear much about).
This was part of my design goals for the various archetypes I've written, which take fairly normal things people do all the time and extended them into mythic levels.
