Right.  I caught that (at the last second that is).  That's what I meant
by a different archtype ascending.  Not something I've ever considered. 
Possibly it's impossible (huh?) to actually happen.  However, that leads
to uninteresting conversations that degenerate into "I'm right!  You're
wrong!"  So, even though I am right, let's go with your example.

All 333 archtypes are filled.  An archtype can only be ousted if someone
else fills the archtype better than the current one, right?  Therefore,
no First and Last Man can *ever* ascend.  The universe keeps going. 
Forever.  Comte gets pissed.  Takes over the world.  Bloodsports become
common as they are the only way to distract the attentions of the new
King of Earth.  

OK, maybe not those last few parts.  

Let's go back to the idea that it's impossible now.  My take is that the
Comte won't ascend until the very very very end.  As the world nears
complition, archtypes start filling in the spaces even quicker.  But at
the very end, when the 332nd goes up, the Comte does too (and probably
just after everyone else dies.  Or else he wouldn't have that Last Man
part fufilled).

Of course, you mentioned a double ascension.  I don't particularly like
it and don't think it'll happen.  With the world coming to a head,
everyone would know about it.  They'd have to be some mighty serious
archtypes coming in at the last second.  Still, I suppose it *could*
happen.
