[UA] Orphomancy?- what do you think?

I think cantomancy is a great idea. But, then again,
I rather liked "Spellsinger" by Alan Dean Foster
(especially the Marxist dragon.)
Having tried my hand musically, and coming from a
family which contains several moderate-to-completely
unsuccessful musicians, I'd suggest the sacrifice you
have to make for music is Dignity.
You have to give up something which makes you look
good toother people, some element of your life which
makes you more socially acceptable. You could
generate a significant charge by getting yourself
fired (not merely quitting, but going through the
humiliating experience of having a job torn away from
you.) You could get one by being thrown in jail for
something -but only if it got around pretty widely
that you did.
People forgive musicians a lot of things, of course,
but that's only when they're on stage. Offstage,
people expect and often get the worst.
