God smiles upon you, more or less. "The New Atlantis"
by Frances Bacon, written in 1620-something, maybe
1630, I forget, too. I bet putting Bacon and Atlantis
into Google will get you some fine results for a UA
game. I wonder what would happen if you added
Forsythe. Let us see...

(a short time later)

Hmmm...
The Gloucester County Historical Society
http://www.rootsweb.com/~njglouce/gchs/vertical.txt

and The Czech Republic "Science and Democracy Report."
It has an impossibly long URL, but starts:

"The Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic, in
cooperation with the National Research Council,
organized a workshop in May 1998 on "Science and
Democracy." This report, which summarizes the
presentations and discussions at this meeting, has
been published by the Academy of Sciences of the Czech
Republic."

It also features these keen subject headings:

IV. Issues in Science and Democracy
Risk of Mediocrity in Science (Jiri Musil)
Competition and Cooperation in Science (V. Paces)
Dialogue Across Disciplines (Ivan Havel)
Science - Society - Media (J. Spizek)
Social Sciences - Actors or Observers of
Transformation? (M. Illner)

I don't know about you, but I could write a campaign
based just around these titles. "Risk of Mediocrity"
is a great name for any game where losing is a major theme.
