While I might or might not include Theomancy (the idea
is intriguing for a truly messed-up street preacher),
I tend to shy away from using Religion as a magic.

To my mind Religion is, of itself, a kind of magic.
Before I offend anybody, let me point out that
adhering to a religion automatically connects you to
the unknown and unknowable. It gives you powers and
protections and guarantees, if nothing else, that your
whole life won't be a waste of time. That's some
pretty powerful juju and you don't need to melt
people's faces with a Star of David to make it
worthwhile. There's even powers inherent in less
mainstream faiths, like Wicca and Yezidi
Zoroastrianism (which is not a kind of devil worship,
despite the claims of a certain overly-sensitive
author.) Drawing down the Moon may seem really silly
at first, until you take into account that, by all
definitions, you get out of the ritual what you put
into it. (I never put anything into it, but that's
against the point.)

Turning Booze into the ability to leap three stories
or a pointless lie into Everything You Always Wanted
to Know About Harry are the only selling points for
most forms of 'mancy, and that crazy notion that, if
you pay the ultimate price you'll get the ultimate
power.
