Replying to my own message: One bit I forgot to mention was the idea that Dion Isaacs was a dipsomancer of the ancient variety, still hanging around for some reason (probably got a major and used it for near godhood some time about 1000 BC) and using spells similar to, but not the same as, modern dipsomancy.
