>In "One Shots" we meet the Comte's daughter Joy, along with his other
>daughters/wives -- the Sorrows. But there's nothing to say he doesn't step
>out on them from time to time. Shit, if Sorrow was your wife, wouldn't YOU?

Joy's his daughter, and the Sorrow's are his wives? I must have missed that. Shit, that whole scenario starts to make some sense, now. Before I was just wondering "What's up with that?" and "Where's the dad, or is it some virgin birth thing?"

>In fact, just this moment I've got the inspiration that as a younger man
>(say, sometime around the Bronze Age) he might have raised a gaggle of
>mortal kids and taught them some of his secrets in order to use them as his
>agents -- loyal kids to help him keep the world in line. But he doesn't do
>that any more. Watching his children age away into death was just too
>hard, even for his immortal heart. Or perhaps one of them betrayed him and
>had to be killed...

Somehow, I tend toward the latter rather than the former. A sentimental Comte doesn't work as well as a cynical old bastard Comte, for me. But that's jsut my preference at the moment.

didn't read J&S very closely
