Hmm. Not sure on that one. Chris is a better person to ask about Johannesurg
than I am, unfortunately. There's a massive evangelical Christian church called
the Rhema Church - seems to be everywhere - but I don't know how much crossover
there'd be.
I do think there's a place for the TOSG down here: I always assumed the rednecks
were home-grown, but it bears consideration that just because the Randy Douglas
chapter of the TOSG are rednecks, doesn't mean that the whole order is. What we
have here are your standard quasi-millennialist apocalypse whackos; could be
anything from rednecks to a bunch of eggheaded Doctor Moreaus. All they have in
common, after all, is the misguided belief that the Comte's enemies need a
smack-down, and that the end times are coming: there's room for that belief in
all sorts of GMC types. And certainly, the terrain in the interior of SA lends
itself very well to fortified compounds hidden on game farms. It would be a
logical place for all the anti-tank weaponry missing from the army's arsenal to
turn up.
And as for "opportunistic criminals", I don't see them tackling a large
well-armed paramilitary terrorist group and coming off all that well, even if
there was any money in it (which there wouldn't be). If they were so inclined,
there'd be a row of AWB heads on stakes stretching from Johannesburg to the sea
by now. :)
Greg and Malcolm, do you have plans to host the city swap on the UA site? If so,
would it be possible to get some kind of status page up, so we can see which
cities are available and which have been staked? As a side request, if there are
any Australian members of this list, I'd really like to see something on Sydney,
or the outback... seems Oz has got a bit of a raw deal as far as RPG action
goes, for no apparent reason.
Wouter Basson, AFAIC, and other "killer doctors" of his kind (Kervorkian,
Mengele, that British guy), make for great Mystic Hermaphrodites. Basson in
particular made the local papers after resuscitating a reporter who had a heart
attack in the court room while Basson was on trial for Apartheid-era atrocities.
A fairly heavy contradiction there.
