Yeah. He was definitely responsible. Whether it was an accident or not, he
struggled with the responsibility all his life. I see him as a hundred and eighty
degrees away from DA, though. Burroughs didn't want help. It would be a mistake
to think of him as a tragic drug figure. He was cut from a different cloth.
Which is not to say that if you played DA as Burroughs, you'd have a bad
game. It's a good angle. It's just not the way I ever saw DA. I see him as
cheaper and sleazier, regardless of talent. More of a Bukowsky than a Burroughs.
I used to play him as sort of a weird, miscast Humphrey Bogart as Hemingway. He's
degenerated into kind of a Robert Blake imitating Dennis Hopper playing Steinbeck
in a casino dinner theater in Biloxi MS.
