Whoops!  I meant, "Did we ever establish that DIRK killed his wife?"

I really like the Prof. Herbert illustrations of Allen as this bald, ugly,
mean-looking wreck.  I always imagined him as one of those guys with the
peculiar charm of compelte honesty and self-knowledge.  "Yeah, I'm a
drunken old fucko.  But at least I KNOW who I am.  Can you say the same
thing?"  He's got the charm of guys who are willing to genially doubt
everything, even himself.  He seems scarred, harmless and burnt-out.  

Two of those are 100% right, and the other is right at least 50% of the
time...
