  I think it's like Entropomancers playing Russian Roulette with a gun that 
  has (unbeknownst to them) blanks.  While they don't know the threat is 
  illusory, the universe does, and that's all that matters.

Contrary to popular film and fiction, blanks especially at close range can
cause severe injury.  The blank fires out air pressure with as much force as
that bullet would have.  That pressure rapidly dissappears, but, if it would
immediately hit something, like your temple, and the barrel is within a few
inches, you will still get a sledgehammer-like blow to the temple.  Add to
that the severity of close range powder burns and it's still incredably
dangerous.
