Actually I just got an idea that might be indicative of
genius or just plain stupid.
Combine Once Upon A Time with The Adventures of Baron
Munchausen with Pokemon for an Unknown Armies Mechanomancer
card game.
You start off with cards like Once Upon A Time based on
various life events ranging from sweet (like blissful
matrimony) to rancid (like uncle Ernie molesting you).
Each player tells a story about a certain card in his hand,
moving to the next player after you play that card.
That story represents the memory that you sacrifice for
your machine. Players decide (one way or another) what
sort of charge you get (and maybe how many minor charges).
After everyone accumulates their charges by annihilating
their self-knowledge, you pull out the other deck.
Draw a number of cards based on the charges you have plus
some set number so that you have more cards to choose from
than you really need. Then put the cards together to form
a clockwork. Put said clockworks in a pit and fight it
out.
Combines the elegance of storytelling with the puerile joy
of beating the shit out of each other.
Just an idea.
Kevin
