Well, there are other cities on the West Coast that could work instead of LA.  Seattle was pushed for by another member, and I'm not sure what else.  San Francisco, where the Emperor of the United States lived?

I was thinking about this, and I tend to agree the Root should be more in the South.  Jamestown, Virginia could be a good choice, as it's the first permanent British colony (IIRC) or wherever the Spanish first settled (down in Florida and Georgia, I think, but I couldn't name any cities).  I seem to have deleted the list of Chakras, so I'm unsure about these exactly, but it seems to work in my head from what I recall.

And I really have no idea why route 66 is so important, so I wouldn't deal with it myself, but someone else can if they wish.
