I expect that if folks took a long long at my campaigns, they would
seem pretty non-heroic. The PCs are definitely antiheroes. Not evil,
but seedy. They are definitely folks with limited resources for
good. But what I try to do is pit them against people and
institutions that are just *wrong* Not necessarily criminal or
megalomaniacal, but just evil and wrong. So the PCs, bolstered by
somewhat hypocritical moral outrage do what they can with what
they've got. Their gestures are typically small, and usually pretty
sneaky and strange, but they can be profoundly affecting. I
definitely have an enormous bias toward seeing people strive for
something better than they are. But I hate to use the word 'heroism'
around games because it's such a loaded term. I like the scale we
have, and I find the themes of personal redemption, difficult
choices, and the squirrelly nature of pinning down exactly what's
right and wrong in the topsy-turvy world-gone-mad of UA to be
intensely interesting. Good question.
