[UA] Perception of damage

Your stories make me feel good about a decision I made in
my campaign.

Two PCs had a bit of a fight. The FBI agent was silently
watching a cult meeting. The clueless cult planned to
sacrifice a virgin. The players were ready for a fight.
One PC wasn't there. He liked being the secretive type.
He showed up separately. He made a noise in the bushes
near the PCs, so they freaked out.

The FBI guy pulled his gun and demanded the person come
out. The other PC decided to run away instead of saying,
"Hey, Dave, it's me." I refuse to speculate on why the
player did that; I find his behavior often boggling. The
FBI agent aimed for the leg and fired.

This is where wounds no longer become secret (actually, I
could have rolled for the player so neither one knows the
damage). He rolled an 11. The secret player knew that he
wasn't hurt before, so he wasn't worried about losing 1/5
his wound points. He insisted that he could continue
running.

I diplomatically handled the situation by saying that the
FBI player made a special effort to shoot at the leg and
rolled a matched success. He did exactly what he wanted to
do which was to wound him to the point where he couldn't
run.

So, unless you have players who are able to roleplay
everything, you may want to roll the dice for any PC vs PC
altercation.

A good roleplayer would drop his weapons when an AD&D
crossbow is pointed at him.

Beavis & Butthead do not cause fires; stupid people do. Role-playing games do not cause mass cultish suicides; stupid people do. Homosexuality does not lead to societal and moral decay; stupid people do. God does not condemn or place false blame on these things; stupid people do.
