Well, the essence of literature is conflict, and it's easier to create
conflict with a clearly delineated "black hat" archetype.  OTOH, let's
suppose there's a "Good Samaritan" archetype, who extends effort to help
those who can't possibly repay, who turns the other cheek - someone who
isn't even bothered when the person helped is ingrateful.  Like the priest
in "Les Miserables" who gets robbed by Valjean and, when Valjean is caught,
offers him an alibi and some more loot...

Now THERE's a hard archetype to dislike, even when he's giving aid and
succor to your ass-whupped enemies.  And when you think about it, there
probably isn't nearly as much competition for Godwalker status among the
self-sacrificing archetype(s?) than there is among the greedy, powermad,
dog-bites-dog-in-the-ass archetypes.
