No, it's just /rare/.  Charitably assuming that there have been an average
of ten Ascensions for each of the filled Archetype slots, and, further,
that we're quite close to universal Reincarnation, with 320 slots filled,
that's 3,200 Ascensions over the course of human history.  Supposing that
the first Ascensions started happening a few thousand years before the
Chinese recorded history began, we've got roughly one person, in the
entire world, disappearing every three years or so.

They just get written off as people who died and the body was
unrecoverable.  Witnesses are told they're crazy fucks.

The strange and dangerous thing about the NG's Ascension was that it was
caught on film.  And enough of its power affected that film that, at least
for the low-generation copies, people aren't inclined to say, "Yeah, so
they stopped the film, the freaking porn star walked off the set, and then
they started the film again.  Special effects, man.  Figure it out."

Though you're probably right that there is some effect of erasing identity
when one Ascends.  Witness the difficulty in finding the NG's real name.
