[TRNSYS-users] parametric study in buildings

Dear Oussama,

Parametrics including changing window sizes is a perfect use case for
jEPlus. You can see how it is done with the example described here:
http://www.jeplus.org/wiki/doku.php?id=docs:manual_1_7_examples#change_windo
w_size. It is with EnergyPlus. However, if you are know how window
coordinates are defined in TRNSYS, the example can be easily adapted to work
with it, too.

jEPlus also looks after executing your parametric cases in parallel, by the
way.

Regards,

Yi

Hey,

Batch programming is a programming paradigm that allows automated execution
of certain commands at the level of an operating system. A batch file is a
“batch” of such commands. If it is called with the command line, the system
executes each individual task listed there one after the other. That's why
the term batch processing is common.

Here is an super simple example of a batch file which calls a Trnsys
template:

*	open an editor and type in the following line:
c:\TRNSYS18\TrnEXE64.exe
c:\TRNSYS18\Examples\3D_Building\6_Step_Add_Daylight\Building.dck
*	save as *.bat
*	double click on the *.bat file an the simulation should start

When you want to run several simulations in series or parallel you can add
it into this batch file. Please have a look in further literature.

best,

Christoph

Dear Christoph,

Thanks for your answer. I needed a confirmation for that.

But, may you please, explain to me what is a batch and how to run it?

Thanks in advance,

Oussama

Dear all,

Unfortunately there is no such possibility to do this in the Trnsys17
environment automatically. In my understanding the easiest way for you, is
to create a number of .bui files with different window areas (Yossef
already described it – thx for that) and then run it with a batch.

Best,

Christoph

I think that if you are looking to modify the WWR, you have to modify the
window AND the wall areas in order to get the same total area as before the
modification.

It's possible in TRNSYS 17 by modifying the .b17 file manually or with a
script (matlab, python...).

Hello every one,

I am trying to perform parametric study in buildings, where one of the
parameters is the windows to wall ratio (WWR). I am defining the area of the
walls and I intend to change the area of windows, thus, the area of the
window is the parameter under consideration.

Does anyone have an idea if this possible using Trnsys17.

Thanks in advance,

Oussama
