Position Summary
Serves as a senior technical consultant for the Consulting and Analysis (C&A) group within the renewables and distribution generation (DG) arena.  The position is only in the Davis, California office of Itron.  The candidate will provide special expertise in areas such as renewable and DG technology performance, economics, energy policy, market research, research and development and statistical analysis. The successful candidate will direct projects, serve as a lead technical analyst on renewable and DG projects and provide expert technical guidance to others in the C&A group. The successful candidate will also deliver consulting project activities, ranging from client identification through final invoicing through medium- to long-term engagements requiring varied interpersonal and technical skills. Performance is typically evaluated based on utilization, (i.e., billable hours) and contractual deliverables. Project management activities include interaction with company and client managers and project cost/scheduling and monitoring. Financial responsibilities include project cost estimating, proposal generation, and invoicing. Will participate in sales and proposal presentations in addition to completing ongoing team activities. Identifies additional product/services opportunities within the renewable energy and DG arena. Candidate will also be responsible for assisting in development of renewable/DG applications within a smart grid platform; help or lead installation of electricity, heat and/or fuel metering for renewable/DG/energy storage projects and conduct impact and cost effectiveness evaluations.  This position will report to a Principal Energy Consultant.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1.  Provide advanced analytical support for renewable/DG projects with an emphasis on PV and Solar Thermal performance evaluation and cost analysis.
  2.  Provide analytical and statistical support for data processing and analysis of metered data from renewable, DG/storage projects, and potentially plug in electric (PEV) vehicles.
  3.  Provide support for market research and analysis on DG/storage/CHP/PEV technologies.
  4.  Provide support on metering installation, maintenance and repair for electrical and thermal metering installations.
  5.  Serve as a primary client contact on selected renewable/DG projects.
  6.  Direct or manage C&A projects of all sizes.
  7.  Assist or lead with the preparation of assigned proposals and participate in sales presentations.
  8.  Assist or lead in preparation of project reports for clients and prepare and present papers at conferences.
  9.  Supervise assigned project teams.

Qualifications
The following is a listing of preferred educational, experience, and certification requirements. An equivalent combination of education, experience, and training may be used to satisfy the preferred requirements for the job.

Knowledge

Analytical expertise with energy systems or similar, ideally including familiarity with SAS or a similar statistical analysis tool for large datasets
Experience with modeling of PV system performance (preferably in NREL's SAM or a similar tool); familiarity with using metered PV data from installed systems into an analytic framework.
Experience with modeling of solar thermal system performance (preferably in TRNSYS); familiarity with using metered solar thermal data from installed systems into an analytic framework.
Knowledge and understanding of performance and costs of other DG and CHP technologies a plus.
Experience with conducting market research on DG/CHP/storage technologies.
Proven ability to translate technical knowledge into layperson friendly documents.
