Veekay,
There are two ways that Type2 can be used. Most commonly it is used
as a differential controller such that it turns on when the difference
between two temperatures exceeds a certain amount and then stays on
until the difference between those temperatures falls to a different
amount. You'd use this in a solar thermal system when you want to turn
on the collector if the collector temperature exceeds the storage tank
temperature by (for example) 10C no matter what the temperature of the
storage tank. This was the method that Alastair correctly suggested.
You can also use Type2 like a more traditional thermostat in which
case you typically want to turn on a device when a monitored temperature
exceeds (or falls below) a certain set point value. There are proformas
for Type2 set up to do this. They are located in Controllers: Aquastat:
Heating Mode and Controllers: Aquastat: Cooling Mode. Alternatively you
can use Type108 which, while it allows for more than one stage of
control, can also be used as a simple thermostat in either heating or
cooling mode.
kind regards,
David
