María,
The short answer is "no, not really." Parameters are intended to be
numerical values. The "string" option in the parameter list of units is
for the situation in which you have defined a variable name that is set
to a numerical value. You are on the right track with defining special
cards in the proforma. The Type itself will need to be able to accept a
LABELS statement. The first special card would be always set to:
LABELS 1
then another special card would be set to the user-defined value. You
can look at the way that Type62 and Type155 are done both at the
proforma level and at the source code level.
