Jean,
The idea of the links is to show how transient information passes
through the system. Because parameter values are static (ie the
information doesn't change with time) there are really only two ways to
define it: either type it in to a particular component's fields, or make
an equation block that defines variable names and assigns them a
constant value, then type the name of the variable into a particular
component's parameter fields.
I have seen some people draw empty links from an equation block to a
component to show that there is parameter information "being passed" but
in my opinion, that just clutters up the system diagram. The best place
to get a summary of a component's parameter information is to look at
the input file.
