Paul,
When you specify a heating type in TRNBUILD, you simulate the building in
Energy Rate Control. This is useful for dimensioning equipment as you can
output the heating load from the building given a specific set
temperature. When you actually want to simulate operation of the
equipment, like a GSHP system, you should use Temperature Level Control
instead. Then you should turn Heating off in your building zone, and use
Ventilation (if heat is delivered by air) or Gains (for example radiators
or heat pipes) to couple your heat source to the building. See this
tutorial:
http://sel.me.wisc.edu/trnsys/downloads/tutorials_and_examples/tlc_tutorial.pdf
for an explanation of using Temperature Level Control.
Hope this helps,
Knut Erik

Re: [TRNSYS-users] TRNBuild / Type56: Documentation on handling custom

Thanks for your quick reply Olivier.
The following paragraph from 06-multizonebuilding.pdf confuses me:
"The heating requirement of any zone subject to idealized heating control
can be determined by specifying a heating type. If the heating equipment
is modelled external to the TYPE 56 component, the heating type should not
be used. Instead, VENTILATION AIRCHANGE, TEMPERATURE and HUMIDITY should
be defined as INPUTS, fed by outputs from the conditioning equipment
component(s) or the supplied heating power should be defined as CONVECTIVE
and RADIATIVE GAINS. The specification of a heating control is optional
and the default setting of the heating control is off."
So I do use the Heating Regime to couple the heat source: I just have to
understand the radiative and convective split of my emitter?
What role does the ?set temperature? provide? Zone temperature is an
output to my simulation and it is the simulation that controls whether the
emitter is receiving heat or not.
Thanks
Paul

Paul,
After having created your input, you can use it in several screens in
trnbuild, it depends what you want to do.
Cordialement,
Olivier Guillemot

Objet : [TRNSYS-users] TRNBuild / Type56: Documentation on handling custom
inputs
Can anybody point me at documentation or examples, which show the handling
of custom Inputs to Type56 in TRNBuild.
I've followed 06-mulitizonebuilding.pdf. This describes how to create a
new Input field which will appear in the interface to a Type56 instance
within the Simulation Studio but it does not show how you use it for
anything within your building model once you have created it.
I'm trying to connect a heat source ( from emitters of a GSHP system ) to
the described building.
Thanks
Paul
