Dear Michele,
   If you know the beam and diffuse components of the total radiation 
(measured on the horizontal), you can use Type16 in mode 3. In the 
Simulation Studio, this corresponds to Type16e located in Physical 
Phenomena: Beam and Diffuse Known (Mode=3): Type16e. If you have diffuse on 
horizontal and direct normal data then direct normal radiation is just beam 
radiation on a tilted surface that is always perpendicular to the beam 
radiation. Since the sun's path is always known, you therefore know the 
tilt of that surface and using algebra, should be able to calculate beam 
radiation on the horizontal. Once you have beam and diffuse on the 
horizontal, you can then use Type16 mode 3.
