Attached is this week's NASMHPD Weekly Update, containing:
(1) news that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has
approved funding for 30 states and the District of Columbia for crisis
counseling services necessitated by the COVID-19 epidemic;
(2) information on a database posted on its website by the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of $175 billion in grants made to
health care providers by the Health Resources and Services
Administration (HRSA) under the CARES Act Paycheck Protection Program,
showing how much each provider received and where they are located;
(3) details on a May 12 NASMHPD Town Hall on Innovative Practices for
Outreach and Support to Vulnerable Victims of Crime during the COVID-19
Crisis, a May 20 webinar on Social Isolation and Loneliness Among Older
Americans During the COVID-19 Crisis, and a Smoking Cessation webinar
also scheduled for May 12;
(4) a Crisis Now CrisisTalk discussion with Trauma Stress Specialist
April Naturale on COVID-19 trauma, grief, and growth;
(5) information on a study finding that female physicians have higher
suicide mortality rates than females generally, while male physician
suicide mortality rates are lower than in the general male population;
(6) updates to the links to Medicaid waivers and State Plan Amendments
approved by CMS to address the COVID-19 epidemic;, and to Federal agency
guidance documents and notices related to treatment and reimbursement
for COVID-19;
(7) a CDC funding opportunity announcement of $40 million available in
grants to tribes to address COVID-19; and
(8) a number of NASMHPD Links of Interest, including:
● a link to a study recommended by SAMHSA Assistant
Secretary Elinore McCance-Katz, M.D., Ph.D., that was published in The
Lancet on the psychological impact of quarantine and how to reduce that
impact; and
● a link to the brief filed yesterday by Democratic state
attorneys general in the appeal before the Supreme Court of the
Republican states' and Trump Administration's latest challenge to the
constitutionality of the Affordable Care Act.
