Baseball is also the only sport in which the ball is handled only by the
defensive side; if the ball ever comes into contact with an offensive
player, that player is out.
There's also a hundred kinds of ridiculous superstition that goes into
managing baseball; I just finished reading Moneyball, which is basically
about Oakland A's general manager Billy Beane's attempts to actually run a
team based on reason, and the weird, cultish backlash from the rest of the
sport.
Also, how many other sports have as much talk about curses and black magic
affecting the game? Curse of the Bambino, the Black Sox, the Billy Goat
Curse...the Cubs routinely even hire magicians to dispel that last one (none
of them have worked yet, of course).
