[UA] Unknown 50s

I'm thinking about setting an UA game in the 50s.

So, what do I need to consider?

Should I use the canon material and transport the people and groups  
into the 50s (slightly modified). If not, then who are the big  
players in the OU?

What schools of magic and avatars are around?

Any great sources for inspiration? (Other than Ellroy.)
