You could always create the Sneakers of Renunciation

The evil gnome could be a Merchant or Gambler and his
swapping of destinies is ultimately tied to him
getting his way in the end.

This could tie in with your King in Yellow story about
a Cruel One trapped under this reality after the last
IC shift-change. In an attempt to break out, he has to
wear the fabric of spacetime away so he can tear free
and escape.

This old, and alien archetype is moving, influencing
people, and causing havoc to destroy reality and
escape. The Compte is trying to smack this Cruel One
like someone would smack a fast cockroach under a
tablecloth.

Besides the evil gnome de-soling people so he can 
give others platform feet as a quasi-metaphorical
punishment fits with the bizarre Oath-system of WW's
Dark Ages: Fae. Thanks, I might just yank this for my
Fae game.
