Come down to the corner where I live and you'll see roughly one
counterexample every minute. Of course, I live on the south side of
Chicago, so it may be an exception. But black people do have money.
There was an article in the times the other day, about how Blacks are some
of Hollywood's more loyal and growing customer bases, and that there are
an increasing number of talented black directors. The rub was that the
movie industry does a lot of deals through personal connections, which
makes progress go very slowly. The fact that the black customers are not
as interested in the sort of pseudo"arty" movies the Oscars love makes it
worse.
