As I understood it, the mechanomancer taboo has more to do with the type of materials used in the clockwork than the time since a given device was invented, ie mechanical/clockwork good, electronics bad.  Incidentally, according to UA2, a charge-worthy photocopier could be built into a clockwork, as long as it doesn't actually photocopy.
