I have worked in a number of book stores over the years and this is what I
have found happens.
If its a small bookstore it gets added into inventory and id seen as a lucky
break.  If wee in a chain store it would be held by the manager and put in
lost and found.  Eventually, it would be sent back to corporate office as a
remainder and end up in a bargain bin somewhere.

In reality, it goes home with the employee who found it.
