So, the company I work for had this tendancy not to give the state mandated (in California anyway, your state may be different) two fifteen minute breaks per shift. Despite being told on multiple occasions that if one needed a break and requested it, one would get it, there were weeks when I got less than one a night on average. For the record, asking didn't make a difference. As a result, an employee sued (I wasn't them). Since then, there have been numerous attempts to make sure employees knew that they could get breaks by asking, and please don't sue, and they'll change. There is a very similar law in California that states if you work more than seven days in a row without a day off, you get OT until you get a day off. The company breaks this one all the time. My last day off was Tuesday, Next week's schedule listed my next day off as being a week from Friday. That for all those of you who are mathematically impaired is nine days in a row. I had to explain to a manager that either he could A) bump at least one day off to earlier in the week, B) pay me overtime, or C) expect me to call the labor board. After a long involved conversation with this particular individual who has been promoted to his level of incompetence, he promised to get me a day off between the fifth and eighth day of that work week. The gist of the conversation was that the company won't stop ILLEGALLY SCHEDULING people for overly long work weeks avoiding OT by paying attention only to workweeks, but I shouldn't have to deal with it personally. So, I'm shutting up because I need a job, and it isn't my problem at this point. Is it just me, or shouldn't ONE lawsuit be all the warning a company needs to get its act together and look at all the ways it's ILLEGALLY mistreating its employees and work on all of them, or does someone need to sue over each and every little one. As I said, is there something UA in this or is it just insipid? Cassady Cassady belongs in vaudeville. Expansive(loud), Charming(overblown), and possessing a wicked Wit(loud), he has to be my first choice of friends to be drunk with on the streets of an unfamiliar city. Having a remarkable affinity for tactics and crowd control, Cassady will be one of the few prepared souls should zombies attack. Cassady is a loyal friend, and implacable foe. Forces of nature would do well to step aside should he get his mind set on something. Other than these things, however, he bears almost no resemblance to Flaming Carrot. The rumor that Cassady's doomsday machine is nearing completion, and that he plans to use this leverage to rid the world of gopher repelent salesmen, is almost entirely unfounded. -Ben Breedlove
