Pretty much, Cassady.
I can only speak for the local Kazaa mo' fu' twits
over here, will download naked pictures of their
grandmothers cause they consider themselves "hackers".
I do think that Kazaa is not the problem, it's the
pirates.
Local sales of White Wolf games has hit nil. I still
buy the Mage supplements, but I'm the only one. Every
twit who used to buy Wheat Wolf games now tells me
that they already got their copy from Kazaa a week
before we get it.
The other perennial favourite is claiming to download
Kazaa for "review" of the product before buying it. Of
course, none of them actually buys the product when it
is available.
The other fact of d20 games having higher downloads is
true, because there is so much more of it available.
I do know UA is being downloaded through someone,
because some pirate told me this when chatting about
UA War Stories. And he did so with a big smile on his
face. If asked if he was going to buy the books he
dowloaded, his reaction was: I don't need to spend
money I got them for free.
Of course, Kazaa allows for nifty things too. Like
getting copies of out-of-print books. But that's
pretty much it for me.
Cheers,
Chris.
