This brings up a rule of thumb that an anthropology professor told me:
you're far more likely to hear that the next tribe over practices
cannibalism than you are to find actual cannibals. It's a propaganda
technique.
Even the Korowai, who do practice cannibalism as some form of capital
punishment, still claim that the tribe down the street are a bunch of
ravenous cannibals.
