Just subscribed to the list after being in a UA game for a few months. Now I'm reading the book and getting an idea of the mad world I've been gaming in for a while now.
We are running the game troupe style but we decided this character just wouldn't quite fit in:
Elvis Pouchard was named for a King and his mama never let him forget it. He grew up in Memphis, in the shadow of Graceland and his family often told stories of the Memphis Mafia and the King going to and from shows, doing good deeds at gas stations.
Mama would prowl the channels for Elvis appearances be they movies, old Ed Sullivan shows or documentaries on the History Channel. Eventually, she couldn't leave the trailer, she got so damned big and it was up to Elvis to take care of his Mama, which he was more than happy to do.
He'd do impersonations and clean dishes at the local diner to pay the bills. He won the International Elvis Impersonation Contest 5 times in a row and Mama was so proud.
Then Mama got into some kind of trouble. Turned out she was getting some kind of mojo from watching Elvis. She had tuned into some kind of power and had angered a local Duke, the King of Elvis fans.
She tried to explain it to him, how the cosmos worked but he just didn't get it, wasn't ready to open his eyes.
She died screaming with Elvis lyrics writing themselves in blood all over her body. He had to burn down the trailer, rather than get her desecrated body out. After Mama was gone and her ashes interred, it came in the mail, mama had changed his name to Elvis Pendragon. When the paperwork came through, it all became clear.
He was the King of Kings and it was time to rock and roll.
