[UA] A Good (if very odd) UA Movie: Lucinda's Spell

So on a complete lark I rent this indie called
Lucinda's Spell. The basic premise is that the last
descendant of Merlin (called The First Horn)- mageborn
and powerful- must choose a mate on the eve of Beltane
and spawn his heir. He isn't all that excited about
it. His choices are a bunch of witches who will
compete in a spell contest to see who has the most
powrful magic, with the winner getting knocked up...
but...

Lucinda is a prostitute and sex-witch who wants to
compete for her own reasons (no major spoilers here).
She and the Horn have something of a past.

Oh, and its set in a sweaty, rain soaked New Orleans.
Not the bullshit NO of Rice, but the real scummy
sleezy NO.

The acting is good... if at times WACKO and over the
top. And its full of great psuedo-real occultism.
The special FX are all charmingly low budget- it was
made for something like 150 grand- but the various
magical folk pull some groovy tricks. The First Horn
teleports all over the place to screw with some would
be hitmen, then shoots them with Jesey James's gun
given to him by his horned blue spirit guide... what
the movie's bad witch does for her spell contest entry
is... well... you have to see it. All I can say is,
hearing her jaw dislocate was upsetting...

The characters could all easily fit into a quirked out
UA game with no real modification... the magic they
used was more traditional, but it was always bound by
certain major rules and taboos- the Horn looses power
when he uses violence or when he passes on his
seed...and he used a distinctly postmodern ritual to
summon up the spirit of Merlin for a vision- complete
with pentagram made from cocain, with the star-tips in
classes of whiskey... and his blood.

But if you have a good video store nearby, check this
one out. It's worth it.
