Some people claim that, yes. It is however only a theory and an
equal amount of experts will argue otherwise.

To clarify things - the theory of Hydrostatic Shock is the idea
that since human body is composed in over 60% of water, a bullet
entering it causes the spread of a "shockwave" strong enough to
displace organs and damage tissue. It supposedly also travels
through veins and arteries, causing a surge of blood to the heart
or the brain capable of damaging or destroing them.

I could go into details why this is not neccesarily the case but
I don't want to bore the listmembers who are not keen on

An arrow or a crossbow bolt tends to slide

Yes, but it can be near to an inch in diameter while your
ordinary rifle/handgun bullet is 5.56mm/9mm.
