At that time almost anything challenging the status quo of ruling
aristocracy challenged the power of the Catholic Church as well
and was therefore preached to be amoral, unchristian and
barbarous. The lion's share of Church's power came from the
influence it had over Europe's Christian kings and knigthood.
Was their superior status threatened so was the Church itself.
