[UA] my game/experiment 2

My experiment is running a game with 3 people without telling them what
game they are playing.

This was the focal point of the first scenario. There's this kindly old
automaton who is a lifelike recreation of his creator and a mechomancer
himself. He's been tinkering away in an abandoned farmhouse in the woods
for 60 years, and he's forgotten he's not real. Everyone has to wind
themselves up on their windmill every few days, right?

And he misses his sister, about the last thing remembers. The sad thing is
that it's really his creator's sister that he misses, and she's dead (I
think). Since he can't remember or think of anything else to do, he's been
trying to find her the only way he knows how, by building a contraption to
call her. Unfortunately, that has in effect been blasting a homing beacon
into the occult world, and all kinds of nasty people have been trying to
find out where that dang "noise" is coming from.

Would the nice players reach the kindly old automaton before the nasty
people? Nope. They were unlucky finding clues so they were a bit late. Some
nasty TSOGers had the old "man" at gunpoint when they got there. When they
saw the gun, they suddenly realized they were all nerdy types with no
fighting skills at all. I didn't know what they would do, but in retrospect
they did just the right thing and cowered in the bushes while the bad guys
led the old man off and drove away with him. They don't even know the
combat rules yet, but at least they assumed the game is real enough that
guns are dangerous.

That's just some of it, but the gist of it. It didn't quite go like I
thought. I thought they might end up talking to the automaton. They did
witness some magick going on, so they haven't called the cops yet. I think
they feel guilty that they letting the old man get kidnapped. They talked
about getting or hiring some guns and going after him.
