For freaky interpretations of MPD, check out _When Rabbit Howls_, by Trudy 
Chase.  How true the book is, I'm not going to guess...but it's got a lot of 
interesting bits with a vaguely paranormal feel to them for those looking 
for UA fodder.

Chase notes at one point that she -- like other MPD sufferers -- has a lot 
of problem with machines, including (for example) watches.  They tend to run 
fast, and then slow, and to stop function without any warning.  She suggests 
that, because of the extra mental activity that Multiples experience, they 
generate a weird sort of energy that interferes with mechanical devices.

She also mentions going out to a club one night and being able to consume 
prodigious amounts of alcohol because each time one of her personalities 
becomes to drunk to function, another steps forward and takes control of her 
body.

It occurs to me that one possible UA explanation for MPD is that the victims 
are living ghost traps -- when put under sufficient stress, they are able to 
pull a demon into themselves, and force *it* to deal with the source of 
trauma.
