I think it could work, but you'll have to sell it
carefully.  Like, you could present it as a
"dreamlands" or "dream warriors" thing, whatever might
appeal to the Necronomicon players.

You might sell the initial idea as "Dungeon Heroes in
Psychiatric Treatment" or as Captured Dream Heroes
Undergoing Government Brainwashing. It depends on how
they are told to beleive in fighting dream orcs. 
After the first cycle of Powerkill, it'll probably
snap into place for most players and they might even
have fun with it.  

I suspect some players will revel in the blood and
guts (using being "crazy" or in a "dream state" to
excuse wholesale slaughter.) These should be
encouraged every bit as much as those who begin
showing their human side, if for no other reason than
contrast.  

That way you can show you've got a sense of fun, as
well as a sense of moral outrage.
